Light up your life!
A lovely new lampshade is such an easy way to make it look like you’ve fancied up your room without resorting to a full-scale re-decoration. While I work on that, I’m busy trying to decide which of these gorgeous Detola and Geek lampshades will do it for me. Or whether I can run to one in every room.
Tola Laseinde, who designs and makes these bespoke lampshades, is based in Letchworth Garden City, and is all about African wax print fabrics (or ‘ankara’ if you want to sound like you’re in the know!) and producing eye-catching retro-looking shades.
‘Ankara’ is more often used for clothes in Africa, but its perfect for interiors – adding a much-needed blast of heat and colour, especially when it’s all cold and grey outside here.
And if you love a particular fabric or lampshade, Detola and Geek will match it with cushions and so on. Or you could just choose one great statement shade for the living room (or more than one – don’t hold back!) and then invite the neighbours over.
They’re bright, they’re geometric, and lots of them have a real retro feel. And at £40 for a 30cm drum lampshade, they’re really quite affordable – especially when you consider you’ll be getting something unique.
