Property Flirt: Millstream Cottage, Harlow

We’re sneaking over the border into Essex for this month’s Property Flirt, and Millstream Cottage is a gorgeous reason to do just that.  A detached, weather-boarded family home set in a whopping 1.1 acres — and it’s a winner inside and out.

Seriously, Millstream Cottage’s gardens — well, more like its grounds — are something special.  Beautifully landscaped, and with a great big water feature where you can sit and contemplate life in perfect peace.  Or just enjoy the views over the property and beyond to the surrounding countryside.

Not certain the sheep is included in the sale — but I guess you could bring your own with you, should you want to.  Plenty of room for chickens, too, if that’s your sort of thing.

There’s a large patio, too, where you can eat out — given the weather — or just veg out.  And plenty of parking on the great big driveway if you can’t be bothered to put the car away in the garage or under the carport.  Lots of space for when family or friends come to visit.

There are also two large timber outbuildings that you could use a studio or a home office or whatever you choose.  I’d be out there a shot if it was ours — that study I’ve been wanting for ages?  That would be it.

If you can drag yourself indoors, there’s a welcoming hallway with doors heading off into the downstairs rooms.  All ancient exposed beams and lovely modern — but sympathetic — wood, with white walls.  Perfect for adding your own style.

There’s a large dining room, perfect for entertaining — think, Christmas lunch — which looks out over the garden, and a great big comfortable living room, with a feature brick fireplace at its heart.

The kitchen is sleek and lovely, with double doors leading out directly into the garden.  Loads of counter space (I’ve got serious work-surface envy right now…), centre island, double oven, breakfast area, the lot.

Upstairs, the master bedroom has a range of fully-fitted wardrobes (hoorah!) and is fully ensuite — as is one of the other three bedrooms.

It’s a great location — and not just for the mesmerizing views.  Yes, you’d be out in the countryside but there are fast train links into London from both Harlow Town and Epping, as well as the M11 motorway nearby.  Good schools, state and independent, close by too, and the sort of village pubs you’ll be happy to call your local.
