Property Flirt: The Square, Much Hadham
This cottage is a proper cutie, tucked away in a cluster of similar homes – The Square – off the High Street in Much Hadham. Prepare to be charmed…
Much Hadham has more than its fair share of gorgeous period and timber-framed houses, and this one is Grade II listed as well. Bits date from the 1650s, with all the character that comes along with that – timbered vaulted ceilings, open fireplaces, right-on-period windows, the lot.
Downstairs, you’ve got a hallway – that could be a study, should you fancy that – which heads into a decent-sized lounge and kitchen / breakfast room. The kitchen has free-standing wooden units – very neat – and a range-style cooker and quarry tile floors. Bit of a country farmhouse feel, but managing to be so with a modern vibe.
Then there’s a vaulted dining room – think of the parties! – with a period fireplace. And from there, it’s out to the garden. Al fresco drinkies, anyone? There’s a gravelled area off to the side with space for table and chairs – just think of those long summer evenings, dinner outside, G’n’T ‘till the sun goes down…
There’s also a shared garden for The Square, with a lawn and landscaped borders. The residents look after that garden, so get your secateurs at the ready.
Upstairs, the two main bedrooms have vaulted ceilings – and one has those gorgeous exposed timbers. There’s a third bedroom, too, off the main bedroom. Nursery, maybe? Or dressing room? Depends on you, I guess!
The loft has been converted, too, with a pull-down ladder to a space you could use as a study – if you didn’t fancy one downstairs – or storage. Or something else?
Don’t know Much Hadham? Great schools, two pubs and a parish church. Lots of good state and independent schooling in Bishop’s Stortford, too – as well as great shopping, sports stuff, and so on. And then there’s the main line rail link into Liverpool Street.
So, what do you think? I think it’s a cute one – but how much, eh? Let’s find out right here.
