Hertford Theatre’s first Craft Fair

14 Nov 2016

It’s that time of the year when Christmas fairs and craft fairs are popping up all over — some more… how can I put it…?  some more, er, appealing than others.  This one’s caught my eye, though, and a quick peek at the artists and craftsfolk who’ll be there looks promising. Very promising indeed.

Oh so cute… from Wilma and Fin

This Christmas Craft and Gift Fair is a first for Hertford Theatre, which is hosting some seriously high-end stalls this coming weekend.  And, unlike some, it’s free to get in (hoorah).

There’s a fab range of stalls for you to browse, and all very stylish and interesting — not a crocheted Santa in sight, by the looks of things.

Something for the wooden bowtie wearer in your life?

There’s stunning silver and glass jewellery by Sarah Lamb Jewellery, hand-printed bespoke designs by BlockPress (which are fab), the gorgeous glass work of Niko Brown, and the very distinctive ceramics of Elly Wall (love those).

Kim Major-George will also be exhibiting and selling her collagraphy work (collagraphy?  yeah, I had to look it up — it’s about collage that’s inked or painted over… I think…) and the West Herts & East Essex Guild of Spinners, Weavers and Dyers will be demonstrating their redoubtable skills throughout the day.

As well as the Hertford Theatre cafe, which will be open throughout, there’s also a chance to sample the deliciousness that is The Hertford Bakehouse — or maybe take home something for later, or a baking-themed gift for someone else.

And as if that all wasn’t enough to get you in a festive frame of mind, grab a mince pie and enjoy Hertford choir Somewhere to Sing who’ll be singing along throughout the day.

I know, I know, it’s still November.  But this has to be a painless — and actually quite lovely — way to ease yourself into the Christmas spirit, right?
