What’s On: Muddy Herts Guide 24-30 Nov 2016

23 Nov 2016

It’s the week for all things Christmassy! Our lovely Herts towns will be all ablaze with Christmas lights this week, hosting various markets, light switch ons and late night shopping events.   But there’s plenty not-so-festive, too…

Hertford Christmas Gala, Hertford Town Centre, 25 Nov, 3.30pm – 8pm

Head to Hertford for their Christmas bonanza light switch on, complete with everything from fun fair to face painting to fabulous live music! And of course, the man in red will be there with his trusty reindeer. And don’t miss Hertford’s special festive shopping day on the 26th, where retailers will be offering promotion and special samples to get you in the mood for Christmas. Support your local independents!

Christmas Festival 2016, Tring High Street, 25 Nov, 6.30 – 9.30pm

If Tring’s more your thing, the town will be closing off the high street for their Christmas festival evening! With high street shops opening their doors and tonnes of stalls lining the high street, there really is something for everyone. There’ll be live music, a fun fair and Father Christmas (cor he gets around – I don’t know how he does it).

St Albans Christmas Lights & Market Launch, St Albans Cathedral, 27 Nov, 12 – 6pm

Moving on to St Albans now. They’re boasting no less than four different light switch on events to choose from – panto stars at the Alban Arena, music on St Peter’s Street stage, festive brass at the clock tower, or after hours at the Christmas Market launch. You can enjoy the gorgeous Christmas Market right up until 18 December, and browse the high-quality produce, enjoy the lights, and don’t miss Carols on the Hour, every hour from 11am – 4pm on the last Saturday before Christmas.

Harpenden Christmas Carnival, 27 Nov, 12 – 5pm

There’s no stopping me now! Onto Harpenden now, where you can enjoy a carnival procession, fairground rides and festive shopping. And the grand light switch on, of course. There will also be live stage entertainment throughout the day. Can’t go wrong!

Family Fun Day, Watford Colosseum, 27 Nov, 12 – 4pm

If you want to get into the festive cheer but you’d like to still keep jolly well warm, head to Watford Colosseum for their family fun day. A lovely indoor event perfect for the kids, with face painting, bouncy castle, arts and crafts, and performers to boot. Oh, and there will be a mini market so you might still be able to make a few purchases. xmas-family-day-watford-2016

Book signing with Mary Berry, Chorleywood Bookshop, 27 Nov, 11am – 12pm

Okay, I promise that’s it for my Christmas offerings – for now at least. I am so excited about this next event – Chorleywood Bookshop have only gone and got Mary flippin’ Berry coming in to visit! *Squeak!* Don’t just wish she was your grandma? She’s a British institution, national treasure, and all round top lady, helping Chorleywood to celebrate their 10th birthday in style. How about that for a party guest? She’ll be signing copies of her fab new book Family Sunday Lunches, so get down there and start queuing now – this will be a popular event. You could even buy a copy for someone for Christmas…(sorry, I know I promised).

Stephen K Amos: World Famous, The Old Town Hall, Hemel Hempstead, 26 Nov, 8pm

Gotta love Stephen K Amos! Muddy Herts editorial assistant, Georgie, assures me that he is just as hilarious in the flesh as he appears on TV. He is definitely one of the loveable comedians out there on the circuit, with very light hearted comedy which just makes you smile.

Ellie Taylor ‘Infidelliety,’ Harpenden Public Halls, 25 Nov, 7.30pm

Comedian Ellie Taylor

Ellie Taylor has been all over the telly and for good reason. She is one funny cookie. She’s starred on the likes of ‘Mock the Week’ and ‘8 Out of 10 Cats,’ and isn’t afraid to take the mickey out of herself. This show deals with what she describes as the ‘pesky bit of marriage known as monogamy,’ which could make for an interesting show…

Comedy Night, Rhodes Bishop’s Stortford Theatre, 24 Nov, 8 – 10.30pm

You want more comedy? Of course you do! How about three for the price of one at the lovely Rhodes Theatre. Now that’s what I call a bargain, and we need to be saving the pennies where we can now that its nearly Chri… (oops, I did it again!) Starring in the show is award winning comedian, writer and broadcaster Jarlath Regan, exciting and unique newbie Matt Winning, and star of BBC3 comedy WitTank, Keiran Boyd.

GLUTTONY: Multi Artist Exhibition, Nude Tin Can Gallery, until 26th Nov

Not one for the faint hearted perhaps, but there’s only a couple more days to catch this fascinating exhibition at Nude Tin Can Gallery in St. Albans. With a variety of artists showing off their work, you can expect to find all sorts of different interpretations of the theme ‘gluttony,’ show through different media.

Pub Quiz, The Fox, Willian, 27 Nov, 7.30pm

The Fox at Willian are hosting a bumper quiz this week in support of Macmillan Cancer Support Hertfordshire – a chance to test your general knowledge and lots of fabulous raffle prizes to be won. And it is a rather lovely pub too. Any excuse…
