Makeover your makeup!

Now, I’ll admit that my makeup routine is a bit touch and go most days — in fact, calling it a routine is probably a bit of an overstatement in the first place.  Luckily, Hero over at Muddy Bucks & Oxon has passed on some top tips from Bucks Make Up Studio — just over the Herts/Bucks border in Wendover.

Tamsin and Joceline there have serious credentials, having worked as make-up artists for over 25 years primarily in the film industry with A-listers such as Judi Dench, Penelope Cruz and Nicole Kidman. Yep, seriously.

But they’re also really down to earth – mums with kids at local schools – and really want to help women of all ages how to apply make-up in a flattering  way.  Hero asked them, ever-so-nicely, to give Muddy readers some helpful product tips and trends for the new season and they’ve come up trumps!  Take a minute to check them out – they really do help – and if you want to get in touch with either Tamsin or Joceline, their details are at the bottom.

Spring/Summer product tips and trends, by the Bucks Make-up Studio

1. Base layer

The Bobbi Brown SPF15 Tinted Moisturiser is fantastic for a natural, even base. Use a slightly damp make-up sponge – Beauty Blender sponges are ideal – to apply an even coverage. Then you can just add a little extra to the areas that need it, rather than applying a heavy coverage all over the face. Another great product by Bobbi Brown is the CC cream. It is a great product for colour-correcting skin tones. It gives a good, even coverage in a range of colours. The pale nude is fantastic – despite its lilac colour it blends beautifully on very pale skins. For a light natural coverage on a budget, the Maybelline Dream Fresh BBcream evens out skin tones and looks fresh and glowing, but is also oil-free.

For dark shadows and discolouration, a brilliant product that brightens and camouflages is Benefit Erase Paste. It come in 3 shades.

2. Make-up

A high-end make-up product we love is the Charlotte Tilbury make-up range – in particular the Filmstar Bronze and Glow which is the perfect bronzer – not too muddy or ash coloured, and a highlighter which is golden but not unnatural.

The Chantecaille future skin foundation is a truly amazing product, but does cost £60 a pot!

We can also recommend the Suqqu eyebrow liquid pen. It comes in 2 colours, brown and moss green – don’t be put off by idea of the green one – it is great for fair skin/hair tones! Its texture is like a watery fine–tipped felt pen, but it lasts all day. And while we’re on the subject of brows – be wary of any brown eyebrow make-up with a reddish tone as this looks very unnatural.

3. Cleansing

There are some fabulous French pharmacy products that you can now buy online.Collosol Lait Nettotant & Adoucissant is designed for babies’ bottoms – but is an amazing makeup remover and moisturizer! Always recommended by A-listers, supermodels and make-up artists, it is really hard to track down online, but some of the larger French pharmacies stock it. Also try Bioderma Crealine H20 make-up remover – a favourite of many make up artists and A-listers.

Red and dark lips are back in fashion. If you like a splash of colour, but not a heavy lipstick, and you find a coloured gloss wears off in next to no time, try applying a bit of proper lipstick all over the lips with a brush, so that it’s not too heavy but you have an even coverage. Apply some lip balm and blot well with a tissue. This will give more of a lip stain look and should last longer.

Tip: To enhance your lip shape you can line your lips with a natural colour lip pencil, just make sure it has blended into the colour used on the rest of the lips.

For a fresh-faced look, try a dab of cream blush on the cheeks. Just smile and add a small amount with you finger-tip to the apple of the cheek, then blend away and upwards on the cheek bone. We recommend Laura Mercier or Bobbi Browncream blushers.

You can add a little touch of bronzer to the cheeks, or a slight dusting to the rest of the face, to give a warmer glow. Just not too much!

To complete your Spring 2015 look, soft smoky eyes are everywhere this season!
