Crafty kids? You *need* Oglee Poglee!

During half term, my youngest and I went along to an Oglee Poglee workshop in Berkhamsted.  Having cut my maternal teeth on a son who couldn’t care less about cutting and colouring in, it was a bit of a shock to end up with a daughter for whom a new pack of felt tips is like the best thing ever and who can happily spend hours — I mean, hours — fiddling with clay and beads and bits of glittery stuff.

So, me and her went along to spend a morning being crafty Oglee-Poglee-stylee.  I wasn’t over-keen, I will admit — being more in my son’s camp — but I was pleasantly surprised.  Very pleasantly.

We all started off with a story — but the ending was left open.  What was it that Oglee Pip had found under the leaves in the wood?   Who knew?  But we got to imagine.  And then it was off to work our way, in our own time and in our own order, round the carefully laid-out activity tables.

I’m not very good — or very patient — with this sort of thing, but it struck me that all the activities were pitched perfectly in terms of the time they took and the skill they needed.  We made… er, I mean, my daughter made a clay hedgehog with multi-coloured spines and a box to live in, a sun-catcher to hang in the window, and a mask depicting what she thought it was hidden under the leaves — as well as having a go at some painting on a great big forest scene and a rootle through a sort of forest-themed lucky dip to see what inspiration she could draw from what she found.  And all that in an hour.  Not rushed, not bored.  Just right, in fact.

Oglee Poglee is running more workshops in the summer holidays — in Berkhamsted (26 Aug) again, which is where we went, and for the first time in Tring (12 Aug).  They’re great value and great fun, and the perfect way to spend a morning doing crafty things without getting glitter all over your own sofa (been there so many times).

And here at Muddy Herts, we just love a good giveaway — it’s all about sharing the Muddy love, people.  This prize will be brilliant if you’ve got little ones to entertain over the summer and beyond.  You can win…

an Oglee Poglee craft party for 10 (count ’em, 10) children — a whole hour of crafty activities and entertainment geared to the age of your littl’uns.

For the 2-5 year olds, think painting great big pictures, sticking and patterns, and making things with clay, much like the workshops.  For 6-10 year olds, expect more focused crafting activities.

Maybe you have a little one with a birthday coming up?  Or maybe this would just make a cracking  play date for the summer hols?  I know my youngest would flip for this prize.  (Don’t tell her I can’t enter, ok?)

Normally, a party like this would set you back £130 — which, to be honest, is worth every penny.  You can be in with a chance to win one just by liking and sharing the Muddy competition post on the Oglee Poglee Facebook page — and teling us what you’d like to make!  Simple as that…

You’ll need to have liked, commented on and shared the Muddy Herts competition post on the Oglee Poglee Facebook page before midnight on Friday 15 July in order to be entered in the draw to win.  We will announce the winner on the Muddy Herts blog on the morning of Saturday 16 July.  The winner can then book a party with Oglee Poglee for up to 10 children free of charge, to take place before 31 December 2016.  The value of a party for 10 children is £130, and additional children can be booked in at a cost of £6 (ages 2-5) or £8 (ages 6-10) directly with Oglee Poglee.
