Todd in the Hole festival is back!
Oh how we've missed cavorting in a field to live music. Well the wait is nearly over. Here's a hot local festival to add to your calendar right now...
We’re just a little bit excited to welcome back this young local fest, Todd in the Hole to Herts this year. First launched in 2018, it’s returning to Stevenage for the third time, from 16-18 July.
As well as tonnes of live music, this boutique festival is also a celebration of our local countryside, good food, family fun and country shows. Picture the scene – you and your family soaking up the sunshine and chilling to some tunes with a cheeky rum cocktail in hand… Beam me up!
If that’s whetted your appetite, read on to discover what we found out when we caught up with founders, David Nye and Mark Watts (that’s them, below!):
So why Todd in the Hole? Anything to do with sausage and Yorkshire pudding?
We came up with the name as the festival takes place on Mark’s farm land in Todd’s Green, Stevenage and, as a child, my favourite dish (cooked by my grandmother) was Toad in the Hole!
Tell us more – what’s the concept behind the festival?
We wanted to create a festival for everyone, that can be enjoyed by all ages – a real family affair. Our festival is a celebration of our beautiful Hertfordshire countryside, the amazing local talent and the brilliant community we live in. We both grew up experiencing gigs by the likes of Oasis and Queen at nearby Knebworth House and wanted to re-ignite that passion locally for great live music.
Give us the lowdown on this year’s musical highlights?
We have more than 80 acts this year, playing across five stages. There are so many great bands and solo artists to see. Our visitors will be spoilt for choice. These include tribute acts like The Killerz, Who Are You, Seven Wonders of Fleetwood Mac, Wrong Jovi, and loads more.
And what’s going on on the smaller stages?
We have two stages dedicated to promoting local talent: a Buskers Stage and our Vincent’s Stage, which is more rocky. Plus, there’s a new stage in our woods that will give a platform to local folk bands and artists.
If all that’s not enough for festival-goers, where can they party on into the night?
You can purchase tickets to our After Parties. Dave Pearce will be keeping the crowd jumping on Friday night and 80’s Icon, Pat Sharp, will headlining our Saturday night After Party.
Being a family event there must be lots on for kids, too? What ages do you cater for?
We’ll have a great Kids Arena, suited to all ages, which will be set in and around two giant tipis. The kids’ entertainment will run on Saturday and Sunday and include theatre, puppets, a kids’ disco, a vintage funfair, a glitter bar and face painting, to name a few.
I reckon some refreshment might be in order after all that fun. What’s on offer in the food line?
Having been involved with festival catering for the last 20 years we know how important great food is, so we hand pick the very best with options for everyone. This year we’ll have crispy duck, paella, vegan and veggie street food and Mexican. That’s just for starters…
And to wash it all down…?
As well as our main festival and VIP bars we’ll have a real ale and scrumpy bar and a series of dedicated specialist bars dotted around the site. There’s nothing worse than having to queue in the sun when you want to be enjoying the fun, so we’re aiming to make service as quick and efficient as possible. Plus we’ll be cashless this year, too.
What are you personally most looking forward to?
We can’t wait to see everyone having fun after what has been such a turbulent and stressful 18 months. Just being able to bring families and friends together for an epic weekend of fantastic music, food and drink will make all the hard work worthwhile.
Phew! We’re partied out just hearing about it. Where can we catch some ZZZ’s?
We’ll have a campsite for festival goers who want to make a weekend of it, complete with hot showers, posh loos and, most importantly, great coffee for the morning after! People can bring their own tents or camper vans, or book into one of our stunning glamping tents for a bit more luxury.
Tickets are on sale now, with options for day or weekend tickets, with or without camping. Hurry though, we reckon they’ll sell like hotcakes. AND if you did buy a ticket for 2020 These are transferable to 2021!
