Muddy says: to experience Savile Row in Bishop’s Stortford is a very special and delightful thing. In addition to bespoke tailoring, you will also find made-to-measure suits, wedding hire wear and accessories. Put Alexandra Wood in your own little black book and make a date to visit. No appointment necessary!

It’s not every day that you can visit a Savile Row tailor in Bishop’s Stortford, but then multi award-winning tailor Alexandra Wood is special in so many ways. Her shop is 400 years old and it’s the oldest menswear store in the UK, possibly in the world. The style and quality of the tailoring is gorgeous and at the tippety-top end of bespoke, but when you walk into the Bishop’s Stortford interior, you immediately feel at home. There are big open fireplaces, Chesterfield sofas to sink into, and freshly brewed coffee to enjoy. For me, the best thing about it is the team of people. They are friendly and warm, and whether you are buying a pocket square or a pair of socks or making a lifetime investment in your first bespoke suit in Australian merino wool, your experience will be joyful and memorable. There are other brands in store that you might like to experience, including: Alice Made This, Corgi, Dancys, Genevieve Sweeney, Lee Renee, Mr Jenks and Pall Mall Barbers.

Alexandra Wood also does made-to-measure tailoring, and has recently started to design and make her own ready-to-wear range. She even offers a hire service for weddings. Please don’t feel that you need to make an appointment. You can turn up at the shop, open Tues – Sat, and I guarantee that you will have fun. For chic and classic tailoring for stylish men, or men who would like to be more stylish, head for No. 10 High Street, Bishop’s Stortford. And if you do happen to be visiting the Smoke, Alexandra Wood also has premises in ‘the Row’ and has recently opened her third shop in Shoreditch.
