Next time you are in Hertford we would love to see you at the Mudlarks Café in Railway Street, where we support people with learning disabilities and mental health issues to learn and work in our community.

Call in to sample the best coffee in Hertford, and our delicious selection of homemade cakes and vegetarian snacks and lunches. We use locally sourced seasonal ingredients and produce from the Mudlarks allotment site. All our food is vegetarian, and we always have vegan, gluten-free, wheat-free, and dairy-free options, and use Fair Trade ingredients wherever possible.

Our coffee is single origin Rwandan coffee produced by the small Inzovu Co-operative, who call themselves Urengerekawa, which translates as ‘let us protect our coffee’.  All of the land, labour and profit is shared equally amongst the members of Urengerekawa. Rwandan coffee is famous for its soft, rich and full flavour, and each cappuccino, latte and Americano we serve is made with freshly ground beans, so the full flavour is there in every cup.

You can find us at 10 Railway Street in Hertford, and the café is open from 10am to 4pm Tuesday to Saturday.

The café also hosts special events such as Music Nights, and is available to hire for private parties.

Mudlarks is a Hertford based charity enabling adults and young people with learning disabilities and mental health issues to lead fulfilling lives. Through supported learning and meaningful work in the community, Mudlarks’ projects help people build confidence and self-worth, and develop important skills.

Other Mudlarks projects in Hertford include:

— Mudlarks allotment gardens provide a peaceful place for our gardeners with learning disabilities to grow vegetables in their own plot of land – gardening is great therapy, and fantastic exercise.

— The grounds of Hertford Town Football Club are in top condition, and the Town Council gardens are a blaze of summer blooms thanks to the hard work of Larking About – our team of gardeners with learning disabilities who manage a number of gardening contracts around town.
