The Annexx is a progressive, full service, boutique hair salon offering a complete range of Redken hair colour services and excellent hair cutting and styling.
The salon was founded in March 2008, a tricky period for business as it was right in the middle of the recession. However, Charlotte and Lanica Johnson had a vision of meeting a local community need to bombard Berkhamsted with an extraordinary and exceptional salon experience.
Just 4 people in a small almost shed like premises at the back of the main Berkhamsted High Street launched the Annexx and from day one clients flocked in.
Prior to opening Charlotte and Lanica had committed to organise a what turned out to be massive fashion show to raise much needed funding for one the local hospices, Iain Rennie Hospice at Home (now Rennie Grove). Models and helpers clustered into the shed and ideas and formulations flourished. The Fashion Show entitled Zer08, took place the week of the salon opening and involved over 100 models, including local schools, art and fashion students. Clothes were loaned by local shops and all the people involved were volunteers. The show was a complete sell out in a 500 seater theatre and raised over £7000.
This event set the ethos of the Annexx. That was it – the local community welcomed the salon so warmly into the community that we decided as a thank you we would ‘receive and always give back’. So now we are committed to supporting or organising regular charity events.
Very soon it was perceived that the shed was too small as we grew in popularity and took on more stylists. Luckily the premises next door to the shed became available and in 2010 the new larger salon opened. Now there are 20 Team Members and an amazing talented hard working group of people they are!
