Wouldn’t You Though?
These hand-made, vintage-inspired, super-girly dresses from Lulu & Flo are just adorable.
The fabrics are very sweet to start off with – tiny florals that harken back to the Laura Ashley of my youth (so, ages ago) or even further. There’s a real Victorian feel to them.
The styles, too, are gorgeously traditional. Little puffy sleeves, smocked fronts, long skirts.
And even the names of the styles fit the whole vintage vibe: Beatrice, Constance, Maud, Iris. They just transport you somewhere that’s very not-modern, and strangely comforting.
Lucy Williams – the Lulu in Lulu & Flo – takes her inspiration from the dresses she used to buy for her daughter Florence (gettit?) on family holidays in Provence. Now that Flo is a teenager, Lucy has turned her love for the styles and fabrics she found there into a business. If you’re passing Battlers Green Farm any time soon, do pop into the Hertfordshire Craft Collective — tucked away round the back — as they stock them there.
One of the lovely things, too, is that Lucy doesn’t make loads of dresses. Each one has its own distinctive charm – whether it’s a set of antique mother of pearl buttons, or a trim that complements a particular fabric just perfectly.
I just know my little girlie is going to look gorgeous in hers… once I’ve decided which one to choose.
