• #wreathgoals2017

Have you joined the campaign yet? No? What’s stopping you? I’m a recent convert and have found myself being positively evangelical about #wreathgoals2017. It’s a campaign that’s being championed by Alice Calcasola van der List, the Dutch floral designer who founded All In One Season in Letchworth. The campaign is gaining momentum, and Alice is on […]

  • Scents and seasonality

As seasonal as rhubarb in February, as natural as a tangle of freshly-picked pea shoots, Gillyflower specialises in home-grown blooms.

  • Get crafty in time for Christmas…

I can’t help noticing that crafty types love this time of year — and before you know it, they’re whipping up something lovely and tasteful to hang on the door or pop on the mantlepiece. I wish I was one of those people. If you, like me, need a bit of guidance in the arts-and-crafts department, here are some workshops going on round the county to get you all festive and fabulous….

  • A splash of colour on a grey winter weekend

There is something utterly lovely about stepping through the door into the treasure trove that is both Alice Calcasola-vander List’s home and her business, All in One Season. There are beautiful things literally everywhere — I don’t think there’s a surface that hasn’t got something lovely nestled on it — and, too, a warm welcome that includes a huge hug and a big mug of frothy coffee, Dutch-style…

  • Deck the halls with boughs of all sorts…

I’m starting to feel just a little bit Christmassy now…. and that’s due in part to Helen Reeley’s garland-making workshop at the weekend. I’m not feeling particular crafty (although I never do), but I am feeling a bit more festive – and quite proud of myself. It might not have been perfect, my garland, but it was all my own work….

  • Hand-tied bouquets made … well, maybe not *easy*

In my never-ending quest to find something I’m actually good at, I was super-pleased when I was invited to go to the Petals ‘flower school’ recently and learn how to make a hand-tied bouquet that would amaze my family and friends….

  • Flowers? For me? You shouldn’t have….

Ok, there’s a reasonable chance – start hinting! – that there might be some flowers flying around over the weekend. Whether it’s a dozen roses (traditional) or a last-minute service station bunch of carnations (more likely), chances are those flowers will have travelled a fair old way to get to you…
