Keen to up your 'shop local' creds this Christmas? Why not extend that to buying your cards from local designers and artists, too? Here's our pick of the best from the talented bunch in Herts & Beds
Local artist Tabitha Mary, hails from Eaton Bray. Her stylish, graphic prints of Tring, Berkhamsted, Bedford and surrounding areas, are good enough to adorn the wall afterwards. Plus they’re printed on recycled card and come with a recycled envelope and biodegradable sleeve.
Who says Christmas has to be traditional? These bright and colourful designs by Hemel Hempstead based Anneka of Jack and the Bean Designs feature all creatures great and small, from flamingos to dinosaurs. She does fab nursery prints too – check ’em out in our Kids’ ‘shop local’ gift guide.

Know someone with a pampered pooch? They’ll love receiving one of these cards from Lucky Lobster in the post – a Herts-based studio which produces cute and quirky linocuts and illustrations. There are 5 doggie designs to choose from including this lovable Schnauzer.
Make it personal
Succulents are everywhere – even at Christmas. Autumn Bella Designs in Bedfordshire creates one-off pencil and watercolour pieces like this succulent Christmas wreath card which can be personalised with a name of your choice. There’s a succulent tree too, as well as lots of other eclectic designs to choose from, like robots, lions and nutcracker dolls!

Letter in the post
Local brush lettering artist Jen Roffe specialises in gorgeous typographical designs (check out her awesome local area maps and teatowels – they make great gifts!). We love these simple but elegant card designs, which have been printed from Jen’s original illustrations on heavy textured card and hand embellished with gold pigment ink.

Helen, founder of Creative H in Herts (phew – that’s a lots of H’s!) is a graphic designer and artist, who works in all sorts of media, from ink to watercolour and acrylics, and of course, digital. She takes commissions for bespoke works (check out her front door Christmas cards!) but we’re particularly loving her bright bauble cards, featuring a monstera plant design – well, why not?! They’re printed on recylcled paper and wrapped in eco twine, too.

Bedford-based artist, Talia Giles’ beautiful works focus on nature and feature both endangered species as well as those found closer to home. This set of Christmas cards is adorned with British birds and woodland wildlife including robins, hares, owls and stags. The packaging is all plastic free, too – they come in a Kraft card box with Kraft paper envelopes.

A bit of pun
You might know Herts artist, Sophie Scrawls for her teabag splat sketches (if not, do look them up – they’re great!) but she also designs some really cool graphic prints like this pun-tastic Christmas card. Geddit?!
