Wouldn’t You Though?

I am lusting — and that is not too strong a word — after these gorgeous necklaces right now.  They’re Canadian, and they’re unusual, not only because of what they look like but because of what they’re made of.

I was given one as a present this week by some very lovely friends who were visiting from (you’ve guessed it) Canada, and then spent a loooong time browsing the dconstruct.ca website (after I’d finished admiring myself wearing mine in the mirror, that is).

dconstruct uses pre-consumer recycled architectural material — scraps that would otherwise be waste from the building process, but which they use to make the most stunning, minimalist jewellery that I’ve seen in a long time.   They also use recycled resin, and natural products like leaves and flowers, bringing them all together into something I just can’t stop looking at.

They’re so light, too.  I forget I’m wearing mine — the chain (if you can call it that) is super-thin, and they have the neatest little magnetic fastenings, which save all that faffing around trying to do up a clasp behind the back of your neck.

And they are so affordable too.  I mean, silly-affordable — even with the postage from over the pond.  Around $30CDN for a necklace, which works out to about £15.  I mean, really.

And it’s not just necklaces, even though that’s my current obsession.  They do all sorts of other loveliness.  Their rings are gorgeous.

And don’t get me started on their concrete bowties.  Yes, really.  Concrete bowties.

I’m wearing mine — my necklace, not my bowtie — all the time right now.  And I can see a bit of an ordering frenzy coming on in the near future.  Love those Canadians…
