A-list alumni – from a local school!

Tring Park School for the Performing Arts churns out constellations of new generation stars - wanna see the latest batch of A-listers?

Tring Park School, designed by Sir Christopher Wren

Oooh aren’t you clever Tring Park School! Somehow this specialist performing arts school on the Bucks/Herts border manages to create super smart kids (A level results for 2018? 52.9% gained A*/B) who also go on to become massively successful A list stars. So there’s no need to send your  talented jazz hander into London when they can get their training in dance, vocal, directing, choreography and acting right here in leafy Tring.  Bravo, darling, bravo!

Think I’m exaggerating on the alumni front? Oh for shame. Heard of Lily James have you? Ella Henderson? Daisy Ridley? Yup, all from Tring Park.

If dancing is your thing, Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake is coming to Wycombe Swan this month (book up, I can’t wait!) and boasts no less than seven dancers. Guess where the two ‘swans’ Will Bozier and Max Westwell have glided in from? Don’t believe me? Read my interview with Max, where he talks about how friendly and grounding Tring Park School is.

Kaine Ward’s not bad at dancing either, truth be told. He attended Tring Park from aged 10, one of six boys from the school to have played the lead role in Billy Elliott before being chosen as one of just 24 dancers worldwide to be accepted into the Juilliard School of Performing Arts after graduating last year.

His instagram feed is full of cool ad hoc dance routines – this guy is the real deal.

You want more? Joe Griffiths-Brown who graduated just this year from Tring Park has landed a role in Hamilton.

On the thespy front, former Tring Parker Ned Porteous made the shortlist for Most Popular Newcomer this year at the National Television Awards for his role as Joseph Tate in Emmerdale, having already played Grant Mitchell’s son Mark Fowler Junior on EastEnders (you keeping up?).

And recent graduate Zach Wyatt has just  landed his first professional alongside Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams in the UK premiere of Lauren Gunderson’s I and You, at the Hampstead Theatre this autumn.

Lydia from Fame was right when she said, ‘Fame Costs. And right here is where you to start paying! (cue sweaty parents across the counties)  – but Tring Park also welcomes those with talent regardless of means, thanks to its generous bursaries and scholarships and the support of the Government’s Music and Dance Scheme.

Interested to visit or know more? Enter stage right at the next Open Days on 5, 11 and 12 October. Or if you fancy taking a short cut with a cup of tea and custard cream initially, just read my review.
