Black Goo, Tring
Muddy says: Need a sugar and caffeine double whammy? This eclectic coffee shop is bursting with irresistible bakes and pastries and serves up a mean brunch, too.
Baker extraordinaire and vintage tea party pop-up queen Sacha decided to find a more permanent home for her passions in 2016 – enter favourite local coffee shop, Black Goo.
With its eclectic décor, funky signage and vintage crockery, Black Goo was inspired by the places that Sacha and her partner have visited on their travels, from the stylish bars of Antwerp and the back street barrios of Buenos Aires to the cool coffee shop vibes of Melbourne, and closer to home, London.
On the menu you’ll find all day breakfasts, brunches and daily specials – with full, veggie, vegan and gluten free options – and you can’t miss the doorstopper-sized wedges of cake up on the bar. I mean, Sacha’s bakes are something else, laden with frosting, fruit and other (ahem, totally calorie free*) delights. There’s also eggs benny with lashings of hollandaise, pancakes piled high, and halloumi and avo feature heavily on the menu too – no complaints here!
Plus, you can get a darn good coffee here, too. Well it didn’t win the 2019 Muddy Award for Best Café in Herts & Beds for nothing!
Oh and do give the alternative afternoon tea a whirl. It’s known as Dirty Goo and for good reason. Think chunky sausage rolls and scotch eggs, with squidgy brownies and scones the size of your head. Wear the stretchy trousers in preparation!
