Broadway Cinema & Theatre
The glamour! An Art Deco cinema beautifully restored to its full and former glory, and a brand new 21st Century Theatre now living inside this iconic Letchworth landmark. Broadway Cinema and Theatre, we are so lucky to have you!
An independent cinema and a professional theatre, dancing cheek to cheek in the architectural Art Deco splendour of Letchworth’s Broadway. Oh, Letchworth, you’re spoiling us! And that’s before I’ve made it upstairs to the super stylish bar.
Before you’re allowed a grown up drink, let me welcome you into the foyer, where the twinkly tiles are delightfully instagrammable. The colours and reflections will have you doing a soft shoe shuffle as you pick up your tickets and choose between ice cream and popcorn and then possibly settle on both. The coffee is aromatic and local, courtesy of Lulu in Ware.
As you sit down, notice if you will, the plumptious comfort of the seats. You might choose to come here to see a big Hollywood movie on the day of release. But the Broadway Cinema also likes to tempt and tease with documentaries, live event cinema: ballet, opera and theatre. If you’ve got time and a baby on your hands, there are regular daytime screenings where you’ll feel most welcome.
In 2017 the cinema gave a warm welcome to the theatre. If you can’t imagine how this works, I suggest you have a look at the current programme, get booked up for something, and go and have a look. You’ll be impressed. I urge you to arrive early so that you can spend some time enjoying the bar. The choice of entertainment will have you planning ahead and scribbling all over your kitchen calendar: Night out! There is a brilliant mix of drama, music, comedy and family shows. This talent for programming shouldn’t come as a surprise. The person behind it all is Sue Scott Davison, the super duper director behind The Railway Children at King’s Cross.
Take a seat. And enjoy yourself!
