Copper House, Berkhamsted
This super stylish all-day bar and social dining destination is local and independent, but it has the look and feel of a chi-chi London venue – see you at the bar!
Copper House is a fab new addition (it opened in April this year) to the already chi-chi Berkhamsted High Street. The founders’ vision was to bring a new late-opening bar and social dining destination venue to their hometown, and it’s certainly created a buzz. Housed in a stunning Grade II-listed building – check out those stone-mullion windows and original arches behind the bar – you can’t miss it. Step inside and you’ll be wowed by the fab décor, from the Tom Dixon chandelier (copper, naturally) suspended above silk and velvet banquettes, to the neon signage and stunning copper-topped bar. It’s an Instagrammers dream!
Head Chef, Matt Wood has designed a menu of Modern European dishes, served in a sharing style, from small plates (think crab bon bons) to larger, heartier dishes (like Côte de Beouf). There’s an extensive list of wines (by the glass) and Champagnes, highlighting local producers, (like the Chafor wine estate just over the border in Bucks – try their English sparkling and you’ll never look back!), plus a cocktail offering that includes classics, innovative recipes and non-alcoholic versions, whipped up by the master mixologists.
And it doesn’t stop there… During the weekends you can make your way through the tasty brunch menu, washed down with a Bloody Mary or a glass of fizz. What better way to while away the morning (or afternoon). Heck, why not stay all day – they’re open ’til 1am from Thursday – Saturday, so there’s no need to schlep into London in search of a chi-chi bar anymore (or race to get the last train home). There’s one right here, on your doorstep!
