The George of Harpenden

This high street pub has been given a new lease of life as a stylish and contemporary all-day dining destination – a one-stop-shop for family brunches to cocktails with the girls and everything in between!

The George has been at the heart of Harpenden’s social scene, thanks to its convenient high street setting, since the late 19th century. But it was in need of a bit of love to bring it up to date and give the good folk of Harpenden (and beyond) a cool and vibrant new venue to meet, eat, drink and be merry.

The new look George of Harpenden combines all the best bits of a pub – extensive wines, beer and spirits lists, and friendly, chilled atmosphere – with fresh, modern décor (check out the gorgeous garden room and terrace in the summer months), and exciting British and Mediterranean-inspired menus to take you from morning coffee to cocktails.

And if you’re not a wine buff, no worries – the wines are listed by style rather than price or country, (think ‘light and juicy’ to ‘big and powerful’) with really affordable ‘easy drinking’ suggestions for reds, whites and rosés, too

There’s a killer cocktail list, too, featuring all the classics, plus some George specials, like the Spanish style gin serves (we’re tempted by the Raspberry and Peach Gintonica, below) – on that note there’s a great selection of gins, including a few local ones – as well as some low alcohol (for, ahem, ‘Mindful Consumption’) and alcohol free options, for when an orange and lemonade just won’t cut it.

Food-wise, you’ll be spoilt for choice with everything from the Full English (with a vegan version, to boot!) and house-roasted granola, washed down with barista coffee and smoothies for brunch, to salads, pastas and wood-fired pizzas on the all-day menu, as well as meat from the Josper Grill. And, of course – it’s a pub afterall – you can expect a cracking Sunday roast here, too.
