Harriet Kelsall Bespoke Jewellery

Muddy says: Bespoke means bespoke for Harriet Kelsall who continues to win awards for her jewellery design and ethical business practices.

Harriet Kelsall was the first jewellery designer to bring bespoke to the high street. Her business is one of the UK’s leading bespoke jewellery companies, and was one of the first in the world to launch certified Fairtrade gold. This talented team of designers and makers continues to win awards for good design and good business practice. You won’t find yourself peering at rows of jewellery here: 90% of the work is ‘clean sheet bespoke’.

You need to visit the Jewellery Centre to experience the Harriet Kelsall brand. The building alone is an example of creative thinking and contemporary design. It’s in a converted Tudor barn in Weston, near Hitchin in north Hertfordshire. How many jewellery businesses have a café with homemade cakes and Fairtrade coffee? Just saying. You’ll see designers sketching and goldsmiths working. This is a business that’s all about telling stories, and it’s a bit like going to an exhibition of jewellery design: the walls are full of sketches and photographs of individual commissions.

Harriet Kelsall Bespoke Jewellery also has seasonal open days with loads of fun things including Easter egg hunts and beading workshops for children. I’ll keep you posted about these in the Muddy guides – they are worth putting in your diary. As I said, this is a very different jewellery business.
