Lawn House, Hatfield
Muddy says: Prepare for a blissfully relaxing stay at this perfectly pastoral boutique bolthole, which promises style, comfort and culture in one charming bundle.
This boutique Bed and Breakfast just oozes English country charm, and let’s face it, it couldn’t have a more tranquil location than within the parklands of the grand and historic Hatfield House. Every detail has been considered, from the calming palette of duck egg and Elephant’s Breath-like hues to the eclectic mix of contemporary and antique furniture (some of which has been salvaged from the dusty attics of Hatfield House itself).
There are 15 uniquely designed rooms, from the deluxe suite with its King Size bed, roll-top bath and fluffy bathrobes to boot, to cosy (but not poky!) doubles and twins as well as a super-cute single. All rooms have 100% Egyptian cotton sheets, super cosy beds, countryside views and, of course, plenty of peace and quiet, which practically guarantee you a good night’s sleep here.
Whilst you’ll probably be roused from your slumber by the smell of bacon and coffee wafting through the house, don’t be tempted to lie in too long or you’ll miss out on the scrumptious organic breakfast. There’s locally sourced eggs, bacon and sausages to order, or a lighter option of smashed avo and poached egg on toast, all served in the gorgeously decked out dining room, complete with wood panelling, Arts & Crafts-style wallpaper and an open-out larder (where you’ll find fresh fruit, juices and cereal, too).
Once you’ve sated your appetite, there’ll be no umming and ahhing about how to spend the rest of your day. Head across the parklands to Hatfield House to explore its collections of art and antiques, wander around the beautiful gardens, or for something a little more energetic take a stroll around the grounds on one of the estates Woodland Walks – you might even spot a resident deer or two – Bucolic bliss!
