Luton Hoo, Luton
For a weekend break steeped in history and jam packed with super-sonic levels of grandeur, it's got to be the mind blowing Luton Hoo.
If you’re after a fantastically grand country house weekender, then Luton Hoo is very much the place to head for. Not only does Luton Hoo boast hundreds of acres of rolling parkland (over a thousand if you include its farmland), but this masterpiece is also one of the largest houses to have been designed by the famous Neo Classical architect, Robert Adam, and with gardens by the also fantastically famous Capability Brown. It’s quite the combo.
This 18th century wonder hasn’t been allowed to go to seed. Instead, it has been carried elegantly into the 21st century. Not only does Luton Hoo have a perfectly manicured golf course, both driving and shooting ranges and glorious restaurants, including the Wernher Restaurant and Adam’s Brasserie, but it also has a fantabulous spa – the perfect weekend indulgence for couples in need of a serious break from it all.
Oh, and they do a wonderful line in afternoon tea – think fine bone china and crisp white table cloths. Choose to take it either in the regal setting of one of the hotel’s lounges, the pillared hall or the drawing room underneath the super sparkly chandeliers. Tea is served ma’am.
