Drawing upon a passion for travel, the outdoors and a love of gin, a creative couple ignited an idea – and a distillery was born.
You know how it is – you’re sitting around a campfire with your other half, enjoying a delicious gin and tonic, and chatting about how amazing it would be to have your very own distillery one day. Normally, that’s as far as goes, but Ben and Kate took their dream and turned it into Puddingstone Distillery, the first small batch gin distillery in Herts.
That was back in 2014. Two years later, Puddingstone Distillery opened its doors and has ever since continued to produce award-winning gin from their Chiltern Hills distillery. Ben and Kate have even won the 2019 World’s Best Martini award using their Campfire London Dry Gin. You’ll now find their gins on the back bars of many of the region’s best pubs and restaurants, as well as in the cupboards of many homes.
Creating inspirational spirits with a mindfulness of community and environment, Ben and Kate’s core range consists of four Campfire Gins (London Dry, Old Tom, Cask Aged and Navy Strength) and Domestique London Dry Gin. They are joined throughout the year by seasonal and limited-editions, such as PUD PUD Gin (as delicious and festive as it sounds) and innovative collaborations with local businesses and Herts & Middlesex Wildlife Trust.
With Covid restrictions slowly easing, Ben and Kate hope to resume gin tastings and themed cocktails events at their distillery later this year. Puddingstone’s tipples are all available to buy online and the distillery shop is set to reopen very soon.
You don’t have to drink outside by a campfire to appreciate these beautiful spirits, but we say roll on summer and chilled-out evenings under the stars with good friends, good chat and exceptionally good local gin.
