This gorgeous village local has been given a new lease of (gastro) life by an award winning team.
Milton Bryan’s idyllic chocolate box pub The Red Lion is on a roll, now that Husband and wife team, Daniel and Narelle have got their feet well and truly under the table. This dynamite duo (with 40 years’ experience between them) took the reins in 2016 and now Award Winning Chef, Daniel, and his team are cooking up a pub-grub storm.
The pub’s historic facade is decorated with jolly traditional hanging baskets and the team has worked hard to redesign the outside space, with two separate garden areas. The pretty enclosed garden (you can be safe in the knowledge the kids won’t run out onto the road), now has a chic Rose-sipping terrace area, complete with elegant sun shades and lighting. And there’s a nice big grassy area – perfect for those who need to let off a little steam.
The interior has been elegantly, and sensitively, updated with the pubs lovely old features (including carefully restored exposed brickwork) beautifully offset with a fresh, modern colour pallette, including a gorgeous powder blue bar.
As far as the food is concerned, the Red Lion does classic pub grub, but with a high-end twist. For example, the fish and chips is made from Marrfishes first pick, freshest caught hake from their very own day boats on the south coast, coated and fried in the The Red Lions Sourdough Beer Batter. And the extensive steak menu includes Aubrey Allen’s carefully selected grass feed & dry aged beef. I don’t know about you, but we are salivating already. Homemade puddings, breads and butters mark this menu a few pegs above the competition. And be sure to reserve your table for Sunday lunch well in advance – the Rib of Beef, Veggie Wellington and the signature Mini Hog roast are hot property…
