Rhodes Arts Complex
Muddy says: This all-singing, all-dancing arts venue is a one-stop shop for all things cultural in Bishop’s Stortford.
The Rhodes Arts Complex has got it all – a theatre, cinema, museum, art space, gallery and dance studios as well as it’s own licenced bar plus meeting and conference rooms for hire.
On stage you can catch some top-notch performances such as major touring theatre productions, live music from top tribute acts, classic and contemporary dance, seasonal pantos, laughs from big-name comedians and popular children’s shows. Enjoy a pre-show or interval drink in the Maltings Bar where you can learn a bit about the area’s local history, thanks to the artefacts on display, borrowed from the museum.
If you prefer the big screen, there’s a mix of blockbuster movies, art-house films, international cinema as well as live theatre screenings from the National Theatre, Royal Opera House and Royal Shakespeare Company, so there really is something for everyone.
Do pop into the museum, too, it’s free to have a look around and you might even learn a thing or two about the area. They run free trails, holiday activities and local history talks there too.
They also put on a whole host of classes for adults and kids, from theatre and dance workshops to art sessions, Zumba and Pilates.
Hosting an event? The complex has seven function spaces accommodating 10 – 400+ people, so you’re covered for anything from small business meetings to birthday parties or charity balls.
