Reader Treats Just For You!

The Grove, Chandler’s Cross

Muddy says: A stunner of a hotel where you can get the five-star treatment and take the kids along for the ride

Just 18 miles from the capital, 30 minutes from Heathrow and set within 300 acres of rolling parkland, The Grove is known as London’s country estate, (well it is the former home of the Earls of Clarendon, how grand is that?). With five-star status, an award-winning spa and an 18-hole championship golf course, it’s no surprise that this hip hotel attracts a mix of uber cool urbanites and the chic country set.

Take your pick from the super luxe rooms and suites – either within the Grade II-listed mansion or the more contemporary West Wing (I don’t think it’s anything like the TV version!), all with lovely ESPA toiletries provided. For a real treat opt for one of the eight deluxe mansion rooms, which are all uniquely designed with garden views and standalone baths.

But this isn’t just a grown-up getaway, children aren’t just catered for, they are welcomed with open arms. And there’s masses for them to do including a daily activity schedule (for tots to teens), nature trails to explore on two feet or two wheels (don’t miss the chance to hop on a segway and whizz around the woods!), a Walled Garden with an al fresco pool, urban beach and potting shed, junior golf camps, tennis courts… you name it! The Grove even has its own day nursery, Anouska’s – perfect if you fancy dropping the kids off for a couple of hours and slipping off to the spa – as well as a babystitting service in the evening.

You’ll be spoilt for choice with restaurants too. The Glasshouse (which re-opened after a major re-furb in May 2019 – check out my review here),  promises to turn dinner time into a theatrical performance with a tantalising array of International dishes to tickle your tastebuds. Or enjoy classic, hearty dishes in the more informal setting of The Stables restaurant, in the 18th century stable block. Finally, Colettes is a seasonal pop-up with dishes created from ingredients sourced from the Kitchen Garden.

Last but not least, the heavenly Sequoia Spa offers a range of packages as well as specialist experience rooms and treatments, so you can let your stresses melt away… so, have you booked yet?
