7 Easter eggcentrics to eat on the big day
Plain eggs are out, novelty chocolate is in – we’re after a bit more pizazz. Popping candy? Shaped like a sandwich? Take your pick with these 7 alternative Easter eggs.
The divine dozen
Handpainted with painstaking love and care, surely these beauties are too eggquisite to simply scoff. No? Oh, OK, crack on then. Created by Muddy Award finalist, Yvette’s Chocolates, they come in milk, dark, strawberry, white and gold caramel chocolate flavours. Just don’t down in one go or you’re likely to choke on the dinky bunny or duck hidden inside each egg.
Shower not a grower
Vegans, rejoice! Your prayers for a novelty egg shaped like a suggestive vegetable have been answered. What, that wasn’t a prayer? Huh, you could have fooled M&S. It’s certainly a talking point, and as a BBC Good Food Easter Taste Awards winner, this Plant Kitchen aubergine makes an excellent choice for vegan chocolate.
Do you normally end up regretting the amount of sweets you eat on Easter Sunday? How about an egg sandwich instead! Just, er, don’t look too closely at this particular Hotel Chocolat Egg Sandwich. Milk chocolate bread, white chocolate egg white, and caramel yolk. Jamie Oliver, turn away now.
One for the savoury-toothed among us. The Blacksticks Blue Cheese Easter Egg is exactly what it sounds like: a large egg made out of blue cheese, crying out to be spread on a cracker. Possibly not one to gift the kids, unless your children have impressively adventurous palates….
Avocado’s and don’ts
It’s green, so it’s healthy, right? A dinky size compared to your standard Easter Egg, Waitrose’s Triple Avocado Filled Eggs are in actual fact dark chocolate filled with caramel, with a crunchy dark chocolate “stone”.
Buzzing about it
Weighing a whopping 1.05kg, this giant beehive from The Chocolate Libertine is made out of caramelised white chocolate and filled with honeycomb nuggets. Just reading those words is enough to make your teeth ache, but we’ve never been ones to turn down a ferocious sugar high.
Sunny side up
Like the sound of the egg sandwich above, but not eating carbs right now? Choconchoc have you sorted with this giant fried egg. Um, it is made entirely out of white chocolate though. That’s not an issue, right?
