High-end Hitchin store for vintage and more

Hmmm, you’ve reached an older feature - let’s get you up to date! Read our latest Fashion features here.

You have to love a place that lays out an actual red carpet for you. Especially when it’s bright red shag pile.

Graceland is definitely the newest – and most fabulous – place in Hitchin to pick up something completely unique to wear. It’s a teeny tiny boutique on Sun Street – so small you might walk straight past if the window wasn’t still filled with the gold balloons from its launch at the beginning of November. But you’d be missing a treat.

The Grace in Graceland is none other than Grace Woodward. Yes, you read that right: former X-Factor fashion director, judge on Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model, and all-round high profile fashion lovely. Here she is, and isn’t she gorgeous?

The Hitchin boutique is just the latest of her many projects, with the very tempting prospect of an online shop and maybe even a London boutique to follow.

Grace picks up pieces all over the world, and so the selection is about as eclectic as it comes – a real magpie selection of shiny bits and bobs  – and will be constantly changing with each new find. She’s filling her new boutique with designer vintage pieces, as well as one-offs from the world of high fashion, and rare bits of jewellery and accessories. Quirky, eccentric, unique are probably the buzz words for this place – John Lewis it most definitely is not.

Expect exclusive lines from the likes of Amy Hall, Alexandra Mann and Lizzie McQuade, as well as locals like the Heartwood Candle Company from St Albans. I only just made it out of there without a bag in hand. Good luck with that one.

The icing on the cake is Woodward herself, superstylish, and personally onhand to help with the kind of style advice that has cost Simon Cowell thousands of pounds over the years. Book out the whole day, she’s worth it!

Graceland is open Wednesday to Saturday, 11 to 7  (Sundays 12 to 5 until Christmas).

Sun Street, Hitchin.
