Opera that’s actually funny? Yup!
If you’re an opera fan — or even if you’re not — there’s a real treat in store for you at Hertford Theatre next month. Olivier Award-winning OperaUpClose are coming to town for the very first time with their massively successful English version of Rossini’s The Barber of Seville (Or Salisbury).
It’s a pretty funny opera at the best of times — although some of the humour is perhaps a bit lost if you don’t understand Italian. But this production is in English (hoorah!) and has shifted the action to Jane Austen’s England — all eligible bachelors, feisty heroines and snooty relatives. And, of course, Figaro (sing with me now…) — the barber who can fix your hair and your love life.
Fancy it? Well, like a Figaro-fairy-godmother, I’ve got a magic… well, ok, I’ve got a discount code for you. Book online right here — and then tap in the code MUDDY16 (all caps) for 10% off your tickets if you book before 19 June. Bravo!
