Superflashy news flash – hot Herts gossip!
Hollywood's new Herts outpost, a restaurant opening, a floral concept store and big theatre news... it's all happening in Herts - read on for the latest news in food, culture and good times
Hollywood is coming to Herts
This is not a drill Mudsters… Hollywood’s Sunset Studio, (responsible for blockbusters When Harry Met Sally and LaLa Land, and bingeworthy boxsets including Scandal and Six Feet Under), has chosen Hertfordshire as the site for its first expansion outside the US! A 91-acre site in Broxbourne will become home to a £700m state-of-the-art facility, and one of the world’s largest film and TV studio campuses.
It’s set to create 4,500 new jobs and contribute £300m annually to the local economy. Nice! We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for A-listers then… Can I volunteer myself to be Ryan Gosling’s local tour guide, please??
Hertford Theatre makeover
While theatres are just getting back on their feet post-Covid (thank goodness!) one of our biggest Herts venues, Hertford Theatre has been undergoing a very exciting overhaul. The just-shy-of £20m Growth and Legacy project will include three new bespoke cinema screens (for hot outta Hollywood releases), a new studio auditorium for live performances, a plaza-style foyer with riverside café and a main auditorium for larger scale shows.
The project will be big on sustainability and dedicated to maintaining and celebrating the area’s history, too. Plus, there’ll be two new community spaces to hire. The new cultural hub is already taking shape and with its town centre position, promises to bring a real buzz to the town.
Hot new openings in Berko
It’s all going on in Berkhamsted at the moment. Fab local restaurant group and sustainability champions, Lussmanns Fish and Grill is opening its fifth Herts outpost on the High Street in the pretty Grade II listed property that used to be Bill’s. It’s scheduled to open in November – race you to the booking page!
And to add to the Berko buzz is a gorgeous new opening from the peeps behind Cecily Day Spa, Alchemy & i and Koha. Floral and fizz-based concept store, Hanako will open on 20 August and invite customers to enjoy a glass of Champagne at the Möet & Chandon bar, while the floral geniuses whip up a beautiful bespoke bouquet at the unique florist’s table.
There’ll also be luxe gifts and floral subscriptions available, plus a ‘flower hour’ where leftover stems can be picked up at knockdown prices to save waste – the rest will be donated to local causes. How very lovely indeed!
