This weekend

Fri 6 - Sun 8 Mar

THEATRE: Talking Heads, Watford Palace Theatre, 4-29 March

Often regarded as one of his finest works, Alan Bennett’s series of mini plays, Talking Heads, draws audiences into the lives of three intriguingly English ladies through their darkly comic monologues – Muriel in her tweed skirt and pearls and the public-spirited Miss Ruddock (both played by Dead Ringers’ Jan Ravens), and Susan, the long-suffering Vicar’s wife (Julia Watson). It promises to be poignant and tragic in parts but ultimately uplifting.

THEATRE: ‘…If We’ve Never Been To The Moon?’, Rhodes Arts Complex, 6 March

Bring out your inner geek for this one… One man’s curiosity about the conspiracy theories behind the moon landings takes him on his own adventure into space via karaoke, video games and a banging 80s soundtrack, plus a little substance abuse… But will he satisfy his cravings for the truth and find inner peace? You’ll have to go and see to find out.

KIDS: Sarah and Duck’s Big Top Birthday, The Radlett Centre, 6-7 March

If you’ve got littlies, the chances are you know all about the weird and wonderful world of Sarah and Duck – talking umbrellas and onions anyone? All of their fave characters from the BAFTA award-winning Cbeebies show will be brought to life through puppetry, storytelling and music, as they plan a special birthday party. It looks super cute!

COMEDY: Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense, Broadway Letchworth, 6-7 March

Based on the work of comic novelist and playwright PG Wodehouse, Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense, was a hit on the West End and previously won an Olivier Award for Best New Comedy. It’s essentially a play about a one-man play performed by an aristocratic buffoon, with the theft of a novelty cow creamer thrown in for good measure, so expect lots of toff-bashing and chortling galore. DRINK: The Gin to My Tonic Festival, Watford Colosseum, 7 March

Love gin? This festival has got your name all over it. Discover over 100 different gins (not all at once, you maniac!), from brand new craft gins to old favourites, with tastings, opportunities to meet the makers, and live music to get you into the party spirit (sorry!) You’ll also get a great goodie bag included with your ticket.

COMEDY: Matt Forde: Brexit, Pursued by a Bear, The Quarry Theatre, Bedford, 7 March

You’ll likely have seen him on TV programmes like Have I Got News for You, and he’s had a number of sell-out shows at Edinburgh Festival for his satirical spin on current affairs. Now Britain’s leading political comedian is bringing his last show as an EU citizen to Bedford, and whatever side of the fence you’re on we defy you not to fall off laughing!
