84 Charing Cross Road, Barn Theatre, Fri 19 – 27 Jan

I loved this book and the film with Anne Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins is a classic. I can’t wait to see what the Barn Theatre does with the story and how it brings to life the story of a New York writer and a London antiquarian bookseller.

84 Charing Cross Road  Barn Theatre, Barn Close, Welwyn Garden City AL8 6ST.

The Flying Lovers, Wilton’s Music Hall, Fri 19 Jan – Sat 10 Feb

Vitebsk, Belarus, 1909. Marc Chagall and his wife Bella, a writer. It’s from Kneehigh theatre, and it sounds wonderful. Some of Chagall’s paintings featured both of them flying. I can’t think of a better venue than Wilton’s Music Hall for something floaty and surreal. It’s a love story, and also a tale of exile.

The Effect, Abbey Theatre, Fri 19 – Sat 27 Jan

Lucy Prebble followed her award-winning play ENRON with The Effect. She says that she wrote the play for her friend Billie Piper, who played Connie in the play at the National Theatre. Two young people, Tristan and Connie, are in a private clinic as paid volunteers to trial a new kind of anti-depressant. They fall in love. 8pm and matinees at 2.30pm.
