Happy glampers

I’ve only just discovered Home Farm Glamping, which is so far south in the county, it’s practically in London. Yet just look at the location. It’s got Aldenham Country Park on one side and its very own river for fishing on the other. Designed with a nod to those of us who panic when our iPhone is running out of juice, this is the kind of glamping where those minor details have been thought through. It’s an outdoor sleepover but with all kinds of bell tents and whistles. Snuggle down.

It was while camping at a hen party that Jess Allen-Bach started thinking about the perfect glamping experience. She now runs Home Farm Glamping from a meadow in Elstree that is so close to London you can get arrive here by Tube. It’s 5 minutes from Stanmore on the Jubilee Line.

Jess has thought about every detail, and the 4-acre site is now popular with hens (the prosecco-quaffing kind), brides and wedding parties, families, and couples, who rather than go on a date night to a restaurant in town, are choosing to rock up for a weekend away from it all. The duvets and pillows are all tippety top, as are the showers and loos.

There’s a whole list of recommendations on the Home Farm Glamping website, from ukulele and yoga teachers to local pop-up supper club Sainlo if you really want to push the boat out. The meadow has been so well designed, Jess made sure that the paths are of sports pitch green standard, while around them the wilder grass grows higher and is peppered with wild flowers.

Take your pick from bell tents and yurts. Each tent has its own fire pit, so marshmallows at the ready. Ice buckets and ice also available and stocked in the barn where you can always charge your phone. Comfort and style in the great outdoors.
