My Fave Places: Kelly O’Brien

Ok, so maybe the picturesque village of Aldbury, with its duck pond and its stocks, doesn’t immediately seem to have much in common with Nashville, Tennessee.  But I bet you didn’t know that as well as the ducks it’s also home to the national winner of this year’s Best Dolly Parton Tribute Act?  Kelly O’Brien — singer, dancer, actress, Scout leader (I know, right?) and yes, part-time Parton — is still smiling, country-style, after her recent win.

You might already have seen Kelly on TV without realising it, rescuing stranded motorists in an ad for Green Flag — if not, do yourself a favour and watch it here.

I asked Kelly to tell me the places she’s loves to party.  And get this — there’s not a country and western bar in sight…

Grove Farm Pick Your Own, Ivinghoe

kelly 1

I love the pick-your-own farm in Ivinghoe because you can put the kids in a wheel barrow with an ice cream and let them run wild in the fruit patches. All while devouring delectable seasonal fruits cheekily in the sun!  Fun, fun, fun!

The Alford Arms, Frithsden

The Alford Arms is just all about great food and service. And it’s in a beautiful part of Frithsden — and can be followed by a little walk up to the winery where Simon and Natalie take great care of you. Natalie also designs her own fashion — so you can start with a lovely glass of their Solaris and leave with a beautiful frock!

The Crazy Bear, Beaconsfield

I take the kids to The Crazy Bear and tell them it’s where the Queen lives. It’s so decadent. We order ice cream sundaes, Mummy has a glass of wine, and we play hangman. It’s just so gorgeous inside. And if it’s not busy, the manager will take you on a tour of the stunning bedrooms on site!  Amazing!

The playground, Waddesden Manor

It’s a great walk to the playground in Waddesden Manor‘s beautiful grounds — or you can catch the bus from the car park. The long slide is perfect for 3 yr olds to 12 yr olds. The kids LOVE it! We then follow the path down to the barns where there is a coffee shop and more ice cream! Oh, and a quaint little shop to buy great quirky toys and gifts.  Follow this with a meal at The 5 Bells — or sometimes we take a picnic if the weather is nice. Bliss.
