Property Flirt: Bromley Hall, Standon
If I had a spare … oh, I don’t know… however much, I’d be badgering Mr C to come with me to look at this property near Ware. A Grade II listed building, bits of which date back to the 16th century, sounds tempting enough. But a gorgeous gardens, an arboretum (I know!), an orchard and a swimming pool? Yep, I’d have a look round.
Bromley Hall sits happily in nearly 5 acres, with some seriously mature landscaping and a long gravel drive to get you to the front door. It’s not too far from Standon and Much Hadham, though, and just a hop, skip and a jump from Ware and Bishop’s Stortford – but I bet you’d feel nicely secluded once you’d raised the drawbridge. (No, there isn’t really a drawbridge…)
There are 6 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and 4 reception rooms, as well as what looks like a very decent-sized kitchen. Various outbuildings, too, including a greenhouse, should you feel the urge to grow your own tomatoes.
I’m a bit of a sucker for exposed beams, and this house has them in abundance. It’s got mullioned windows, too, and those distinctive tall red brick chimneys. Real period feel to the outside of this one and lots of features inside to add to that first impression.
So, what do you reckon it’s on for? That’s a fair bit of land, in a good location, with more than the usual complement of bedrooms. And a pool. It’s listed, it’s spacious, and it’s got that great long drive leading up to it.
Place your bets, ladies and gents. My eldest nailed it within 50k. How close can you get? Then check to see how well you did right here…
