Super-Hot Fashion Boutique that Muddy *loves*
One of the best things about Muddy Stilettos running across three counties now is that Hero and I get to find out all about cool stuff going on a bit further afield. Boundaries between counties are funny things, because often there’s the automatic stop sign in your head that tells you it’s waaaaaay too far to tiptoe over the border into a strange county.
Still, I managed to persuade Hero that there’s somewhere over our way that she just had to check out. She schlepped over to St Albans recently to spend some time (and flex her credit card…) in one of the best fashion boutiques in the whole country. (For those of you who are nowhere near, there’s a brilliant website too). The Dressing Room won Best of British Independent Retailer of the Year 2015, has won masses of Draper Awards as well as being in Vogue‘s Best 100 Shops Outside London, so it’s the real fashion McCoy. Let’s see what she got up to, shall we…?
The last time I was in St Albans was for a 21st party in a grungy local pub, so I can’t say my knowledge of the town is remotely helpful (though I know a woman who can tell you!), but first impressions of St Albans these days was good – plenty of indie shops, a smattering of classy chains like Carluccio’s and a pretty central wishbone street on either side of the 15th century medieval clock tower.
The Dressing Room is just around the corner and you’ll need to give yourself plennnnnnty of time. The boutique is beautifully laid out – plenty of room to manouevre, low level shelving so you can browse easily, there’s a stylist service (all shop assistants are given regular and ongoing stylist training). Basically it’s about as pleasurable as clothes shopping gets – and you know how good that feels. Photos probably say it better than I can.
I mean, seriously, the pictures go on and on!
What I like best about The Dressing Room though are the pricepoints – you can very easily pick up a decent gift in here for £20, buy Ts and jeans, or go crazy and, ahem, spend £300 quid on a jumpsuit below (oh come on, it was the UK Blog Awards night!).
Like most boutiques with their heads switched on, The Dressing Room does a free delivery service and returns, 10% first orders for signing up to the newsletter, click and collect as well as stylist evenings.
And to top it off, the packaging is gorgeous. Yes, I am feeling very smug at this point.
Anyway, if you have some downtime, check out the website. There’s a Just In section, a blog with style looks you can replicate and owner Deryanne’s latest style picks too. Dare you not to find something you love.
