Best local spas for some New Year R&R

Now that all the Christmas chaos is done and dusted it's time you booked yourself in for a little well-deserved me-time, don't you think? Here's our pick of the best spas in Herts & Beds to don a fluffy robe and get pampered to the max.

Y spa, Wyboston Lakes

Winner of the Muddy Herts & Beds Best Spa award 2021, you can book a blissful spa day or stay at the lovely lakeside retreat in Wyboston. There’s a gorgeous outdoor hydrotherapy pool, sauna and steam room, as well as a huge range of treatments with products from Elemis, NEOM and Murad. The on-site Waterfront Hotel (where you’ll stay if you opt for an overnighter) is also due a refurb and we’re expecting great things! Watch this space.

Seqouia Spa at The Grove, Chandlers Cross

If it’s a totally zen experience you’re after, the Seqouia Spa at The Grove near Watford is a winner. There’s the 22m black tiled pool for starters, wicker chairs suspended amongst stems of bamboo for a Japanese tea garden vibe, a smoothie bar, separate saunas and steam rooms for men and women and over 30 treatments on the menu for you to peruse at leaisure as you sip that green tea. Read our review here.

Cottonmill, Sopwell House, near St Albans

Sopwell House opened its super swanky private members’ spa in 2019 – all three storeys and 14m squid’s worth of it! Yup Cottonmill is about as plush as they come, with its state-of-the-art fitness facilities, organic sauna, award-winning designer garden and a list of signature treatments harnessing the healing powers of sand and water.

Down Hall Hotel and Spa, near Bishop’s Stortford

Not only is this Italianate mansion on the border of Herts and Essex gooorgeous, it’s also been home to Bake Off royalty (yep, GBBO is filmed there). The luxurious Eden Spa is the, erm… icing on the cake! There are three treatment rooms offering ESPA beaty and body treatments, a hydrotherapy pool, with views over the 110 acre estate. Packages start at just £60 for hotel guests.

Aqua Sana, Woburn Forest

A 2019 Muddy Award winner, we reckon Aqua Sana got your votes for its relaxing forest setting, indoor-outdoor pool and its range of different experience areas, including the fire and ice spa, the blossom spa, the herbal spa and the mineral and gemstone spa. Plus, being set within the grounds of Centre Parcs means you can tag on a night’s stay (in a dedicated spa suite) and indulge a little longer…

Odyssey Spa, Knebworth

Another one that boasts a coveted Muddy Award, Odyssey Spa in Knebworth is a Day Spa with clout, thanks to its nine rooms, (including a pool, sauna, steam room and Moroccan relaxation suite), huge range of face and body treatments and specialist clinics, from permanent makeup to fat freezing (it’s a thing!) and vitamin shots. Packages start at an all-too-tempting £60!
