The Sun Inn is a proper village pub – think views of the local church, access to a sprawling network of lovely countryside walks, (including along the River Great Ouse and the nearby Felmersham Gravel Pits), a cottage garden to while away sunny afternoons in, and an inviting fire to cosy up to in the winter months.

It’s independently run by two couples who are passionate about great hospitality and creating a warm welcome for locals and visitors alike. Pete and Connie and Laura and JJ have owned The Sun Inn since 2019, before it underwent a huge restoration in 2022 – using local craftspeople and sustainable materials – to become the charmingly rustic space you see today.

You’ll mainly find JJ and Laura on their nearby Wild Berry Farm – The Sun’s partner business – caring for their herd of boer goat (which often appear on the pub’s menu) and running their stunning Lakeside wedding and events venue.

Back at the pub, Head Chef Pete is responsible for the continually evolving menu that changes with the seasons. Tasty bar food  (goat curry, towering burgers and Sunday roasts) is available from The Hatch from Wednesday – Sunday. Meanwhile, in the Dining Room (open Thursday – Saturday for dinner and Sunday lunchtime), you’ll experience The Farmer’s Table concept, which takes diners on a culinary farm-to-fork journey through a seasonal tasting menu, celebrating the best local ingredients and fine wine. There’s a vegan version too, called The Greengrocer’s Table. Clever!

And if you want to make a night of it, rest your head in one of the two gorgeously decorated boutique rooms. Dawn, over two floors, sleeps up to four and boasts original features, a living area and free-standing copper bathtub. Whereas the more modest Dusk room is elegantly decorated in restful tones and features the same luxe touches including Artframe TVs, Nespresso machines and Hypnos beds. Anyone else suddenly come over a little sleepy?
