About

Hi, I’m Katrina, Editor of Muddy Herts & Beds, freshly back at the helm after maternity leave, and looking forward to bringing you all the brilliant stuff that our two counties have to offer.

I’ve been writing for women’s lifestyle magazines for over twelve years, including Ideal Home, Waitrose Food, Sainsbury’s Mag and John Lewis, as well as many more health, beauty and luxury living titles. Prior to joining Muddy I was Acting Deputy Editor of the former glossy local title, Edition, so you’re in safe hands when it comes to getting the inside line on all the foodie goss, pampering hotspots, new openings and cultural must-dos in our area!

Born and raised a country girl in the beautiful Cotswolds, I spent eight years honing my career as a London magazine journo, but soon felt the pull of the countryside beckon me back when I started my own family. Herts seemed to tick all the boxes: rolling hills, quaint market towns quirky indie stores and cosy pubs, all within a hop, skip and a jump from the bright lights of London: win, win! Four years (and two kids) later we’re still discovering more wonderful things about our home county every day and have never looked back. I can’t wait to share all my fab finds with you right here, so watch this space.

This is the Muddy Mantra, so you know what to expect from the site:

  1. I try everything out myself so that you can fully trust my opinions. On the occasions that I haven’t been somewhere myself (for example, an event that hasn’t happened yet – I’m not a miracle worker!) I let you know about it.
  2. Muddy Stilettos is a commercial site and accepts advertising and payment to feature products and brands. However, I believe passionately in only working with brands that share my ethos and are relevant to my readers. I retain editorial control and independence at all times.
  3. I accept tickets to free shows, festivals, restaurants, events etc with the purpose of reviewing or publicising them on Muddy Stilettos Herts, as I’m sure you appreciate it’s pretty expensive zipping around trying stuff out all the time. Hotels, restaurants, cafes, bars – if you want me to try you out, please get in touch at katrina@muddystilettos.co.uk or via twitter @muddyhertsbeds.
  4. I’ll never write a nasty review. I’m not into trashing people, brands or companies. BUT if you’re not good enough, I will not write about you in Muddy Stilettos, regardless of whether I have paid for the experience or not. This gives me the editorial control I need and the trust that my readers demand.

I hope you love the site. Please tell your friends about it, and sign up for my splendiferous newsletter delivered to your inbox to be the first to know about all the cool stuff happening in your area!
