Hi, I’m Katrina, editor of Muddy Herts & Beds. For more than a decade I’ve been writing for women’s lifestyle magazines, (Ideal Home, Waitrose Food) as well as being Acting Deputy Editor of John Lewis Edition so keeping my finger on the pulse of food, fashion and interiors trends, cultural must-dos and amazing places to eat, stay and be pampered, is second nature.
I’m a country girl at heart, raised a hop, skip and a jump from the beautiful Cotswolds. So, after spending eight years building my journalism career in London, it felt only natural to move back to the countryside when I started my own family. My husband and I drew out our search area on a map and Herts ticked all the boxes: country life with proximity both to London and our families and since settling here we haven’t looked back.
Herts and Beds have so much to offer, from the rolling Chiltern Hills and canal and reservoir networks to picturesque market towns playing host to chic pop-ups, independent boutiques and restaurants as well as a thriving arts scene, with theatre, exhibitions and festivals that stand up against some of London’s finest. So where better to celebrate that than in Muddy Stilettos, the ultimate urban guide to the countryside?
Now in 21 counties (and more to come this year!), Muddy’s success has not gone unnoticed, reaching the Finals of the prestigious Major/Drum Awards for Best Newcomer 2018, and named as Digital Pioneers and Countryside Champions 2018 in a national newspaper, too – impressive stuff!
This is the Muddy Mantra, so you know what to expect from the blog:
- I try everything out myself so that you can fully trust my opinions. On the occasions that I haven’t been somewhere myself (for example, an event that hasn’t happened yet – I’m not a miracle worker!) I let you know about it.
- Muddy Stilettos is a commercial site and accepts advertising and payment to feature products and brands. However, I believe passionately in only working with brands that share my ethos and are relevant to my readers. I retain editorial control and independence at all times.
- I accept tickets to free shows, festivals, restaurants, events etc with the purpose of reviewing or publicising them on Muddy Stilettos Herts, as I’m sure you appreciate it’s pretty expensive zipping around trying stuff out all the time. Hotels, restaurants, cafes, bars – if you want me to try you out, please get in touch at firstname.lastname@example.org or via twitter @muddyhertsbeds.
- I’ll never write a nasty review. I’m not into trashing people, brands or companies. BUT if you’re not good enough, I will not write about you in Muddy Stilettos, regardless of whether I have paid for the experience or not. This gives me the editorial control I need and the trust that my readers demand.
I hope you love the site. Please tell your friends about it, and sign up for my splendiferous newsletter delivered to your inbox to be the first to know about all the cool stuff happening in your area!
