Award winning AA Rosette pub, The White Hart in Welwyn, is owned and run by brothers, Tom and James Bainbridge, and it’s a real foodie find, so we’re super excited to be giving away a three-course meal for two PLUS an overnight stay with breakfast to one lucky Muddy reader.
On the menu, you’ll find intriguing starters (chicken ‘scrumpet’ and Thai green curry; honey mustard salmon with pickled carrot), followed by hearty pub mains (fish and chips; beef and onion pie) and seasonal mains, which have more of a gastro twist (rare seared beef with asparagus and beef bone marrow croquette; pan fried swordfish with polenta and prawn chimichurri), all created by Tom, using quality ingredients. There are some seriously tempting veggie options, too, so noone will go hungry. Then for dessert, choose from the likes of rich chocolate brownie or rhubarb sorbet. Salivating yet?
And to drink? The White Hart’s all-day bar offers everything from real ales to cocktails, a range of gins and James’ personal wine picks (he’s always happy to recommend a bottle to go with your meal). Plus, there’s an in-house mixologist if cocktails are your poison.
After all that delicious food, you’ll want somewhere to lay your head. Dating back to 1681, The White Hart was once a coaching inn and offered overnight accommodation for travellers and their horses. Today the four AA star accommodation is somewhat more comfortable, and includes 13 en suite bedrooms within the stable block and main house. And, once you’re fully rested, you can wake up to a fabulous breakfast – with cooked or cold options – before hitting the road.
