<p>Reputed to have the longest high street in Britain, this quiet, semi-rural town that stretches out along the River Hiz offers the perfect blend of countryside charm and convenience. It&#8217;s great for nature lovers, with excellent walking and cycling routes on the doorstep, while happening Hitchin is a mere hop and a skip away. The train station has direct links to London, making this little town perfect for commuters in search of a quieter life.</p>

<p>For coffee and sweet treats head to <a href="https://www.facebook.com/p/Bites-and-Breeze-61558937857928/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bites &amp; Breeze</a> on the high street. The historic thatched pub <a href="https://www.whitehorsearlesey.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The White Horse</a> in the heart of Arlesey is the place to meet your new neighbours – it has a huge garden and good pub food. For high-end fare, <a href="https://www.foxatwillian.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Fox at Willian </a>– a 10-min drive away in nearby Letchworth – is an award-winning gastro pub with 2 Rosette dining and seasonal menus, and there are more excellent gastros in neighbouring villages, such as <a href="https://www.crownpub.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Crown Henlow</a>. Brisk walk and Sunday lunch anyone?</p>

<p>Arlesey has a Post Office, pharmacy and grocery store, and <a href="https://osbornecakes.godaddysites.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Osborne Cakes</a> which can deliver home-made cupcakes and bakes to your door – yes please! For local produce, <a href="http://parksidefarmshop.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Parkside Farm Shop</a> is nearby, while <a href="https://www.churchfarmardeley.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Church Farm</a> in neighbouring Ardeley delivers farm-fresh meat and vegetable boxes.</p>

<p>Ok, Arlesey is not exactly brimming with high-end salons, but <a href="https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100063498915750#" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ambitions</a> on the high street is a good bet for a cut and colour. For skincare treatments and waxing there’s <a href="https://www.instagram.com/etm_treatments/?hl=en" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ETM Treatments by Emma</a>, and <a href="https://www.facebook.com/HollybrookBeauty/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Hollybrook Beauty</a> for lashes and brows. Just outside Arlesey is <a href="https://waterloofarmwellness.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Waterloo Farm Wellness</a> for facials, massages, reflexology, life coaching and more, and for serious R&amp;R, <a href="https://www.champneys.com/spa-resorts/henlow.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Champneys Henlow Grange</a>&nbsp;is just a 10-minutes drive away. There you’ll find a pool, steam room and sauna, urban gym, cycle studio and mindfulness room, plus you can explore the grounds on foot or bike and play a game of tennis.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-community">COMMUNITY</h2>



<p>This little town puts together lots of social and community events – check out&nbsp;<a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/1211960552163994/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Arlesey Events</a> for details of these and guided walks. Football fans can join in at <a href="https://www.arleseytownfc.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Arlesey Town FC</a>, and there is an outdoor multi-use games area for all sports including football, tennis and netball. </p>

<p>Alert! You are just over three miles away from the perfect kids’ day out – <a href="https://standalonefarm.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Standalone Farm</a> is a wonderful place with more sheep, cows, pigs, ducks, chickens and tractor rides than your little ones will know what to do with. There’s a great cafe too, to re-fuel and avoid tantrums. Nearby <a href="https://www.stotfoldmill.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Stotfold Watermill</a> is a lovely historic building with loads of activities for children plus a beautiful eight-acre meadow with benches, picnic tables and wildlife. It hosts the popular Steam Fair &amp; Country Show every year.</p>

<p>A 10-min drive away, in Biggleswade, is the <a href="https://www.shuttleworth.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Shuttleworth Estate</a> – hundreds of acres of pretty parkland that houses the fabulous Shuttleworth Collection of vintage aircraft. There are regular airshows and other events, and the Swiss Garden plays host to theatre and musical performances in the summer months. <a href="https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/wrest-park/?gad_source=1&amp;gad_campaignid=22382583347&amp;gbraid=0AAAAA_CvyT8saIdlGQawjeRCdK4ChtCTh&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQjw-ZHEBhCxARIsAGGN96KkePQhKr31kemKR8DNftBA7yGy98eruVBDA9XvcnOy8yjOwdXgob8aAvcoEALw_wcB&amp;gclsrc=aw.ds" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Wrest Park</a>, an English Heritage mansion and grounds begging to be explored, is 15 mins away – it hosts special family events too.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-schools">SCHOOLS</h2>



<p><a href="https://www.gothicmede.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Gothic Mede Academy</a> primary school, and secondary <a aria-label="Etonbury Academy (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.etonbury.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Etonbury Academy</a> are both in the town, and both are rated Good by Ofsted, so that&#8217;s that sorted. For independents, we like&nbsp;<a href="https://www.st-francis.herts.sch.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">St Francis’ College</a> and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.stchris.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">St Christopher School</a> in Letchworth, a 10-min drive. <a href="https://www.kingshottschool.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Kingshott School</a> is slightly further away in Hitchin.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-best-kept-secret">BEST KEPT SECRET</h2>



<p>The L-shaped&nbsp;Arlesey Old Moat is a lovely spot and buzzing with wildlife in the spring and summer. The walk there is a delight too, through Glebe Meadows, dotted with riverside picnic tables. Get that picnic gear out!</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-commute">COMMUTE</h2>



<p>Arlesey is well-connected with a station in the town. A rush-hour commute to King’s Cross takes just under 40 minutes. </p>
