<p>This little Bedfordshire village is bedded in fantastic countryside, yet just a skip and a jump from Luton&#8217;s amenities, the indie shops of Dunstable, and of course Luton airport for stress-free holiday getaways. Caddington has great connections into London, a good community spirit and the gorgeous Chiltern Hills are on the doorstep. If you fancy a more outdoor life but want to stay connected, this could be the place for you.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61556209795380" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Eric&#8217;s at Millfield Green</a> is a friendly coffee hub that serves up a hearty breakfast, while for lunches and dinners check out <a href="https://www.facebook.com/people/Bridges-Restaurant-at-Millfield-Green/61560266984232/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bridges Restaurant</a>. Pub-wise, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/chequerscaddington/?hl=en-gb" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Chequers</a> is a popular local right by the village green that welcomes dogs. While the Luton Hoo Hotel is currently closed for refurbishment, the neighbouring Luton Hoo Estate is open with <a href="https://lutonhooestate.co.uk/the-woodyard/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Woodyard Café &amp; Brasserie</a> a cosy spot for lunch and coffee.</p>

<p>There are a handful of convenience stores in the village, including a Post Office and Co-op, plus a cute cake shop, <a href="https://www.cakesbykatieallen.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cakes by Katie Allen</a>, that delivers sweet treats and bespoke cakes to your door.</p>



<p>Head to Luton town centre for big brand names and chains including John Lewis and Marks &amp; Spencer, but for indie shops you’re better off going to Dunstable town centre – both are just 5 minutes away. <a href="https://cottagegardenflowershop.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cottage Garden Flower Shop</a> (florists since 1898!) is a good shout in Dunstable for fresh blooms. If it’s seasonal, local produce you’re after check out <a href="https://www.dunstable.gov.uk/middle-row-markets/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Middle Row Markets</a>, Dunstable’s bi-monthly market.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-health-amp-wellbeing"><strong>HEALTH &amp; WELLBEING</strong></h2>



<p>For beauty salons again head into Luton or Dunstable, but <a href="https://www.instagram.com/phoebetaylor.beauty/?hl=en" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Skin &amp; Beauty by Phoebe Taylor</a> is good for manis and pedis, and <a href="https://www.instagram.com/alchemyhair__/?hl=en" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Alchemy Hair</a> if you need a coiffe. <a href="https://platinumwellness.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Platinum Wellness</a> is a boutique studio offering reformer pilates, fitness classes, personal training and remedial massage. <a href="https://affinityhealthclubs.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Affinity Health &amp; Leisure Club</a>, just outside the village near Markyate, has a 10-metre swimming pool, spa, gym and range of fitness classes. For an indulgent spa treatment, bespoke facials, massages and waxing visit <a href="https://rbbeautyluton.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Revive Skin &amp; Beauty</a>, a stone’s throw away at Woodside Farm.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-community">COMMUNITY</h2>



<p>The highlight of the community calendar is the annual Caddington Village Show, held in the summer, complete with dog show, crafts, entertainment and food, and there are more events throughout the year. The <a href="https://www.facebook.com/CaddingtonClub" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Caddington Sports &amp; Social Club</a> hosts football and cricket and has a bar and function room for music events. Caddington Woods and other parks offer great spaces for children to play and adults to relax. There is also a running group, a gardening club, and plenty of walking groups if you want to natter while you hike.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s all about the outdoors here. <a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/essex-bedfordshire-hertfordshire/dunstable-downs-and-whipsnade-estate" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dunstable Downs</a>, just a 10-min drive from the village, sits at the highest point of the beautiful Chiltern Hills and is a local favourite for kite flying, paragliding, and catching dramatic sunsets. Take it as a starting point to explore a ton of well-marked trails or just soak up the stunning views across the Vale of Aylesbury with a picnic. The National Trust&#8217;s <a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/essex-bedfordshire-hertfordshire/dunstable-downs-and-whipsnade-estate/eating-and-shopping-at-dunstable-downs" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dunstable Downs Café</a> is a lovely spot for a coffee or scone (or three) and more stunning views.</p>



<p>Nearby <a href="https://www.whipsnadezoo.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Whipsnade Zoo</a> is a great family day out with thousands of animals, a play area, railway and daily keeper talks. You can even stay overnight in their Lookout Lodge and enjoy after-hours tours of the zoo at sunset, after dark and in the morning. And if you like your animals a little more domesticated, <a href="https://www.woodsidefarm.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Woodside Animal Farm</a> in neighbouring Slip End is great for young children.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.culturetrust.com/venues/stockwood-discovery-centre" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Stockwood Discovery Centre</a> features a gorgeous walled garden, interactive local history museum, play area, and the largest carriage collection in Europe (not something you see every day, eh?). It’s a good bet for a free day out (you don’t even have to pay for parking!) and also hosts an annual Summer Garden Party, outdoor exhibitions and has a pretty garden café.</p>

<p>The average house price in Caddington is £500K, with terraces going for just over £350K and detached homes selling for an average of £620K.</p>

<p><a href="https://caddingtonpreschool.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Caddington pre-school</a> is in the village and rated Good by Ofsted, while <a href="https://www.tinycubsnursery.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tiny Cubs</a> nursery, just outside the village, rates Excellent.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-schools">SCHOOLS</h2>



<p>For primary, there is <a href="https://www.caddingtonschool.net/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Caddington Village School</a> and <a href="https://www.stmarysprimary.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">St Mary&#8217;s Catholic Primary School, </a>both of which are rated Good by Ofsted. The village has its own secondary school, <a href="https://www.mansheadschool.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Manshead Church of England Academy</a>, which is also rated Good, while the <a href="https://www.thestockwoodparkacademy.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Stockwood Park Academy</a> is just down the road in Luton.</p>



<p>You’ll have to go further out for independents. For Prep there’s co-ed <a href="https://www.edgegrove.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Edge Grove School </a>in Aldenham and for Prep and Secondary, <a href="https://www.stahs.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">St Albans High School for Girls</a>.</p>

<p>Luton and Luton Airport Parkway train stations – a short bus ride from Caddington &#8211; will see you into London in less than 35 mins. If you want to go further, Luton airport is 10 mins away by car.</p>
