Cupid’s in the kitchen! Here are 10 of Herts & Beds best takeaways bringing the food of lurve to you this Valentine’s Day, all wrapped up and sealed with a (socially distanced) kiss!
George IV Pub, Great Amwell
The lovely George IV has put together not one, but three Cook at Home meals for this Val’s Day, all prepared with love, care and maybe a wee cuddle. The only tricky bit you’ll need to do is coose between the Hereford fillet of beef and mushroom Wellington for two (£49.50), Hereford Chateaubriand to share (£47.50), or chargrilled field mushroom, spinach and aged Tunworth wellington (£17 each). You can add a bottle (or three) on top, of course (it is Val’s day). Collect on 12 February or it can be delivered for £10.
Paris House, Woburn
Nothing says je t’aime more than a V-Day takeaway from Paris House. Their At Home Valentine’s Set Menu – including delish dishes, such as scallops, venison and Petits Fours – will be prepared and boxed up, ready to collect. All you and your lucky Valentine have to do is finish off, plate up, pour the first of many large glasses (especially if you treat yourself to their matching Valentine’s Wine Pairing) and get smoochy. For delivery or delivery from 11 to 13 February.
£125 for two people, plus £42 with wine pairing.
Kite at the Red Hart, Hitchin
Celebrate V-Day with your loved one and make your lockdown love-in a little brighter with this ready-to-eat (as in no prep or cooking your end – whoop!) three-course menu from this Hitchin favourite, Kite at the Red Hart. With mouth-watering dishes, including roasted celeriac and black truffle velouté and 5 ways with chocolate (excuse my drooling), I’m in lust already.
£65 for two.
Lussmanns, St Albans, Harpenden, Hitchin and Hertford
Always the start of a lively ‘discussion’ at our house when cooking up a fancy meal: red meat (him) or white fish (moi). But there’ll be no such domestics this 14 Feb, as Lussmanns have created a luxury steak and lobster box. The pre-prepared three-course meal comprises everything you need, including sustainable fresh fish, all the sides and herbs, plus Prosecco and a choice of rather nice wine. Peace restored.
£99 for two people.
The College Arms, Hertford Heath
Yes, this Valentine’s Day is a little different but that doesn’t mean it can’t be just as sweet – or even sweeter if you go for this local pub’s Cook At Home Valentine’s Sharing menu. Offering three delish courses – including anti pasti, 70s classic prawn cocktail, salmon croute and beef Wellington – it’s the trio of desserts that’ll have you salivating. Nope, I’m not going to ruin the surprise, you’ll have to go have a peak yourself. Make it snappy, though, as pre-orders need to be in by 4pm Thursday 11th February.
£50 per couple.
The Fox & Hounds, Hunsdon
Missing your Michelin Val’s day treat this year? No need, because this gorgeous pub – the only Michelin BIB Gourmand restaurant in Herts – has put together a delish three-course Valentine’s Day ‘at home’ Experience just for you! Owners James and Bianca have taken the most popular dishes from past Val Day years and popped them on a menu for you to take your pick. The Tilbury, Datchworth
Lockdown love has certainly had it’s up and downs, so if there was ever a time to take it easy and just sit back, light a few candles and treat your loved one on Valentine’s Day, it’s this year. Just to make it that bit easier, the Tilbury has created everything you need, with a four-course menu, complete with drinks pairing. Like all of their at-home offerings, your food will be served oven-ready, in recyclable containers, along with simple cooking instructions. Collect your meal on the 13 February 3-5pm.
