Celtic Harmony Camp, Brickendon

This unique site in the Herts countryside offers immersive and educational Pre-history experiences for schools and families.

As soon as you set foot in Celtic Harmony Camp, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time. This cultural heritage education centre is based on an ancient Iron Age ‘village’ of thatched round houses and is surrounded by native woodland. You’ll also find a herb garden, The Woodland Bistro café and a Prehistory Centre with its own Palaeolithic Cave, plus a woodland walk and Stone Age encampment to explore around the site.

From themed community and school day trips to glamping (such as the annual Family Summer Prehistory Adventure, where you can sleep in a roundhouse), kids and adults alike can get hands-on with a huge range of experiences, from pottery making and archery, to den building and drumming, as well as storytelling and cooking over fire. The activities are designed to teach more about how our Stone Age ancestors made food, clothing and shelter from natural resources, as well as looking at what we can learn from them to help us live more sustainably today and protect our natural environment for future generations. Plus, being out in the wild, off-grid and amongst nature does wonders for physical and mental wellbeing.

The Woodland Bistro is open on-site every Saturday and Sunday, with chefs preparing a range of seasonal dishes inspired by Celtic Mediterranean style cuisine. Enjoy Celtic Broth, Focaccia bread filled with flavourful ingredients to quality burgers loaded with toppings and tender slow cooked beef in a bap.

You’ll also find workshops and activities taking place every weekend. Coming up is Flintknapping and Chalk Carving (1 March) plus Wild Pottery and Thumb Pot Pottery (March 2).

Other dates for the diary include the Easter Dragon Quest (10 – 18 April), and Summer Glamping and Samhain (October half term). See all events here.

Go on, get back to nature and channel your inner cave woman/man/kid with this unique outdoorsy and educational experience. Just leave the Tarzan togs at home though, Dad, ok?
