Ember, Hertford

New kid on the block, Ember is a food-led social dining restaurant where vibrant sharing plates take centre stage – followed by a soundtrack of vinyl beats.

Located on bustling Fore Street in Hertford, Ember is a buzzy restaurant and speakeasy bar where social dining is done differently – think shareable plates, an open charcoal kitchen, and an impressive vinyl music system. Led by head chef Oliver D’Arcy, Ember’s menu changes with the seasons with dishes including velvety chicken liver parfait and slow-cooked, satisfying Galloway beef rib. Not only that, it offers everything from bottomless brunch and killer cocktails through to wine dinners and Sunday lunch.

The restaurant’s vibe is retro cool with huge swathes of natural light, an open kitchen and live sets with regular DJs spinning vinyl classics and vintage soul. But wait. There’s more. Slip downstairs and discover the hidden, speakeasy bar. Dimly lit and alluring, Under the Embers features its own custom decks making it the perfect spot for a post-dinner Espresso Martini and some timeless tunes.

Want to celebrate with friends? Under the Embers is also available for hire – with room for up to 25 guests, it comes complete with your own personal bar tender and DJ. Intimate vibes, great food, your people. What could be better?
