Herrings Green Farm, Wilstead

Every fancied flying a a hawk? Take the kids along for a truly unique, up close and personal experience with wonderful birds of prey.

If it’s fantastically fancy birds of prey you’re after, look no further than Herrings Green Activity Farm & Bird of Prey Centre. Herrings Green houses an astounding range of Hawks, Eagles, Owls and Falcons and the English School of Falconry display team are on site to show them off. Flying displays involve the American Bald Eagles, African Fish Eagle and other spectacular species. Watch your kids’ faces as the birds swoop low over their heads and there’s even a chance for public participation in each show, with anyone participating receiving a natty little gift to remind them of their day. Pick me (or my child, of course)!

If your young ones really take to it, they can even join the Young Falconers Club (the first of its kind in the UK) and learn to handle and fly birds themselves. Over a 10 month period (the sessions are once a month on a Saturday) the kids will learn about falconers knots and kit, and how to fly all kinds of different species. And there’s even a chance to learn to hunt with a Harris Hawk. Pretty cool stuff.
