Right in the heart of Hertford (try saying that with a mouthful of pizza!), the county town’s Pizza Express branch has a prime spot in a historic coaching inn (think of the period features). On lively Fore Street, it makes good company with local indie bars, coffee shops and boutiques. What’s more, it’s had a full refurb recently meaning that while you can still expect all of your Pizza Express menu favourites, striped t-shirt service and relaxed dining experience, you can enjoy it in a stylish new and improved setting. It’s a Leggera Padana, washed down with a chilled glass of white, and a slice of honeycombe cheesecake for me, please!

Afterwards, you can walk off all those doughballs with a wander round the historic town centre, stopping off at the castle and grounds, enjoying a spot of shopping, a caffeine hit, or even taking in a performance, when the newly overhauled Hertford Theatre, BEAM, re-opens in August.
