Tewinbury Farm Hotel, Welwyn

This four-star hotel on a working family farm is far more than just a place to rest your head. It’s a rural bolthole with restaurants, co-working spaces, lake-side huts, a wedding barn, its own cookery school and a vibrant wellbeing and live events offering.

On a 700-acre estate within a nature reserve – the picturesque River Mimram runs right through it as sheep and alpaca graze in the fields beyond – Tewinbury Farm Hotel is in a pretty idyllic spot. But that’s only the beginning of the story…

Retaining plenty of its rustic charm and style from its former roots as a dairy farm, there are 53 modern bedrooms and lodges as well as cosy self-catering woodland and lakeside huts (complete with wood-fired hot tubs) and even a cute water-side shepherd’s hut. There’s also the impressive and self-contained private-hire house (perfect for large groups, family celebrations or team builds), Kingsbridge Estate, which boasts a cinema, private games room, bar, gym and not one, but two hot tubs, as well as its own private garden and gated entrance. You’ll also find a treatment room on site, plus bookable wellness sessions from Bootcamp and ice baths to Yoga and Zumba.

You certainly won’t go hungry here with a choice of field-to-fork dining options, focusing on British, local and sustainably sourced produce. First up there’s The Granary Kitchen (the farm’s former chicken shed!) for hearty breakfasts to laid-back lunches. For dinner, head to The Cowshed restaurant which serves up refined British classics, dishes inspired by the kitchen garden and a legendary roast dinner. Their gorgeous tiered afternoon teas are served here, too. Plus the Stable Bar is open to residents and Farm Club members only for food and drink through the week. Finally there’s the Farm Yard – a covered outdoor event space for live music, drinks and street food on Friday nights. And if you want to hone your own culinary skills, there’s even a Cookery School here, headed up by Chef Lee Maycock, which offers half or full day private or group courses.

If you’re looking to book a unique place to hold a corporate event, you’ll be spoilt for choice with Tewinbury’s range of meeting spaces, team-building activities and events packages on offer. And if you’re getting hitched, the stunning Tythe Barn with its exposed beams and riverside setting will make all your rustic wedding dreams come true.

You’ll find all this just off the A1M, 15 minutes from Luton airport and only 35 minutes from central London – did we mention Tewinbury even has its own main line train station (Welwyn North) with direct links to Kings Cross? It really has got it all!
