The White Hart, Welwyn

This 17th century coaching inn has a rich history and offers creative menus, cocktails and boutique bedrooms, plus a fabulous function space.

Award winning one AA Rosette pub, The White Hart is owned and run by brothers, Tom and James Bainbridge.

You’ll find an à la carte menu, as well as bar snacks and sharing plates, created by Tom, using quality ingredients. Tom also heads up the kitchen at sister pub, The Tilbury which has two AA rosettes. Plus there’s a monthly supper club, themed on cuisines from different countries or seasonal wines.

The all-day bar offers everything from real ales to cocktails, a range of gins and James’ personal wine picks (he’s always happy to recommend a bottle to go with your meal). Talking of cocktails, there’s an in-house mixologist, Adam Msetfi, shaking things up, with a cocktail Happy Hour every evening from 5-7 and ALL day on Sunday.

Dating back to 1681, when it was Welwyn’s main coaching inn, The White Hart once offered overnight accommodation for travellers heading north from London as well as stabling for 34 horses. It was also the village courtroom, where petty theft, assault and, ahem…  drunkenness, were dealt with. If walls could talk!

Nowawadays, the four AA star accommodation at The White Hart is somewhat more comfortable, with 13 en suite bedrooms, including four converted stable rooms, six in the main house (two with four-poster beds), and three contemporary boutique rooms with jacuzzi baths, which are ideal for brides and grooms or romantic getaways.

And, what was the old court room is now a dedicated function space with a private entrance for wedding receptions, private parties and conferences.
